What do I need to know as a new client?
What is the difference between Botox and Dermal Fillers?
Botox and Dermal Fillers are both popular non-surgical aesthetic treatments, but they work in fundamentally different ways to address signs of aging.
Botox (Botulinum Toxin) is primarily used to relax muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles (lines that appear when you make facial expressions like frowning, smiling, or squinting, while Dermal Fillers are primarily used to restore lost volume, fill static wrinkles (lines visible even when the face is at rest), and enhance facial contours.
How often do I need Botox or fillers?
On average, the effects of Botox typically last 3-5 months and require a refresh, while Dermal Fillers usually need a refresh every 9 to 12 months.
Do Botox and Dermal Fillers hurt?
Needles and syringes are essential to aesthetic treatments, but the fear is often much worse than the reality. For most people, discomfort during a Botox treatment is truly minimal, and there is no downtime. For dermal fillers, a topical numbing cream can be applied to further minimize any sensation.
Ultimately, good injection technique is paramount, regardless of the treatment type, which is why choosing an experienced and reputable provider is so important. We believe that a better understanding leads to a more relaxed experience, so we dedicate ample time during consultations to discuss the process and science behind your chosen treatment.
How much product is used?
Most clients imagine a large syringe filling flat spots or crevices when they hear about aesthetic treatments. This is understandable, as the science behind the treatments isn’t always clear. However, the term “dermal filler” is often misleading.
In reality, the product is used more for lifting and creating projection rather than simply filling empty space. The remarkable thing is how little product is needed to achieve significant results.
To help visualize this, consider a teaspoon filled with water. The amount of product in a single syringe is only about one-fifth of that—a small quantity that goes a very long way.
When will I see results?
Botox: The muscle-relaxing effects of Botox typically begin to appear within 1-2 days after treatment, with the full, final results visible around 30 days.
Dermal Fillers: Results from Dermal Fillers are usually visible immediately after the injection. However, it is common to experience minor swelling or bruising, so the final, settled results are best appreciated about two weeks post-treatment, once any initial side effects have completely resolved.
Can you stop Botox and Dermal Fillers once you start?
Yes. Both Botox and Dermal Filler treatments are temporary and can be stopped at any time without any long-term negative effects. If you choose not to continue with treatments, your face will gradually return to its original appearance as the product naturally metabolizes.
If you’re considering an aesthetic treatment for the first time, whether it’s Botox or dermal fillers, schedule a consultation and ask all the questions on your mind. Understanding the treatment, having the right expectations, and trusting your provider are crucial to a positive experience and loving your results.
